Audience:  Project Managers; Process Improvement Practitioners

 

Course Description:

This workshops demonstrates the use and application of Lean principles and methods to the process of managing projects. Participants will understand how the classic project management process can be structured to reduce waste & variability to improve performance (time, cost, quality, resource use). 

 

Course Objectives:

  • • To introduce the fundamental concepts and principles associated with Lean Project Management and the “Critical Chain” principles.
  • • To demonstrate Lean project management planning, analysis, and control tools through applied problem solving and case studies.
  • • To develop participants’ intuition about the underlying uncertainties in projects and to develop approaches on how to best mitigate those risks.

Instructor Information

David Stec

David’s professional career includes 26 years experience in manufacturing and healthcare complemented with 16 years of teaching experience at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Operations Management, Lean Systems, Six Sigma, Project Management, Technology Management, and Systems Modeling.  He is also the instructor for the Lean Enterprise Certificate Program at the CCSU Institute of Technology & Business Development.  He is the founder and principal of Vizibility LLC, a management consulting firm, focused on strategic planning, operations strategy & management, and Lean/Toyota Production System implementations in manufacturing and service industries.   David has held Director-level positions in Operations,  Process Improvement, and Supply Management for Yale/Northeast Medical Group, Hartford HealthCare Medical Group, Clinical Laboratory Partners, and United Technologies Pratt & Whitney where he was mentored by sensei from Shingijutsu Consulting Ltd. in lean manufacturing practices.  He is co-author of the Shingo-prize winning book, Better Thinking, Better Results, and has (8) peer-reviewed publications.  David has a MBA & MSME from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a MS in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a BSME from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
