Audience: This program is for students in middle school entering grade 5 through 8 in the Fall 2017.
Students will be immersed in hands-on experiential exercises where they will learn the fundamental elements of technology management while designing and building several technological devices (i.e. mousetrap racers, bottle rockets, solar cookers, “Rube Goldberg” contraptions, etc.). Students will learn and apply the a) problem-solving/design process, and b) building blocks of all technological systems (materials, energy processing, simple machines) through their project work.
The workshop will include in-class exercises, case studies and practice with technology management principles and topics including:
David’s professional career includes 26 years experience in manufacturing and healthcare complemented with 16 years of teaching experience at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in Operations Management, Lean Systems, Six Sigma, Project Management, Technology Management, and Systems Modeling. He is also the instructor for the Lean Enterprise Certificate Program at the CCSU Institute of Technology & Business Development. He is the founder and principal of Vizibility LLC, a management consulting firm, focused on strategic planning, operations strategy & management, and Lean/Toyota Production System implementations in manufacturing and service industries. David has held Director-level positions in Operations, Process Improvement, and Supply Management for Yale/Northeast Medical Group, Hartford HealthCare Medical Group, Clinical Laboratory Partners, and United Technologies Pratt & Whitney where he was mentored by sensei from Shingijutsu Consulting Ltd. in lean manufacturing practices. He is co-author of the Shingo-prize winning book, Better Thinking, Better Results, and has (8) peer-reviewed publications. David has a MBA & MSME from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a MS in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and a BSME from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
