This course will give you an overview of strategy, theory and practice of total compensation (cash and equity).
This course will give you an overview of strategy, theory and practice of total compensation (cash and equity). The main topics of base pay and variable pay design and management include building pay structures, determining the pay mix for various levels of employees including executives and measuring the effectiveness of the total compensation program. Sales compensation and international compensation will be discussed briefly. Laws relevant to compensation such as FLSA and the communication of the total compensation program will be highlighted.

The certificate is designed for professionals entering the HR field, entry- to mid-level managers, small business owners or anyone needing to brush up on their HR skills. New supervisors or managers looking to gain knowledge might benefit too.

DANIEL P. PURUSHOTHAM, PH.D., CCP, CBP Central Connecticut State University’s Dan Purushotham serves as adjunct faculty in the School of Business at Central Connecticut State University. Prior to entering the academic arena he worked in several financial services organizations, the most recent being The Hartford Financial Services Group as vice president, corporate compensation and performance management. Purushotham helped launch the Colonial Total Rewards Association and has served as its co-president. This is an educational and professional development organization for total rewards professionals in Central Connecticut and Western Massachusetts. Purushotham has led workshops and has been a speaker nationally and internationally on human resources-related topics. He is an instructor for both the HR Management and WorldatWork certificate programs. He co-authored Building Pay Structures, a WorldatWork publication.
Purushotham is a 2013 recipient of the University of Hartford Alumni Association’s Anchor Award, presented to alumni for their professional accomplishments. His not-for-profit board membership currently includes the Charter Oak College Foundation and The Barney School of Business of the University of Hartford. His past membership includes the boards of American Red Cross Blood Services and WorldatWork and the Executive Compensation Management Council of the Conference Board. He holds an MBA and master’s degrees in psychology and industrial psychology, and a doctorate from the University of Connecticut. His professional designations include WorldatWork’s certified compensation professional and certified benefits professional.
