BreeBernerBree Berner graduated from the Continuing Education Department’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Certificate Program at Central Connecticut State University in 2014. The GIS program helps students learn to analyze and visualize data to answer questions and solve spatial problems. She currently works for legislators at the Connecticut General Assembly, where she uses her GIS skills to use mapping to answer questions about voting districts and display geographic data.

Ms. Berner joined the GIS program to tune up her GIS skills for her job. She also wanted to expand her options for future career choices. In addition to her career, Ms. Berner also wanted to enhance her GIS skills for personal use when she uses mapping in her hobbies and volunteer search and rescue work. Ms. Berner found the GIS program useful in these areas, and believes the courses were a great overview of the vast applications of GIS technology, including emerging areas of use. She recommends the program to those interested in GIS, and explained that by “continuously increasing knowledge in using the software and applying creative thinking to problems or situations, a person can provide new solutions and produce useful projects which serve others and improve our world.”
