Manufacturing Math

This class uses practical shop floor examples to provide greater confidence in understanding the mathematics which are the foundation of many of the manufacturing processes and specification in use.

Details

Curriculum

Dimensions, Tolerances, Forces, Stresses, Torque: Manufacturing Quality and Operations Fundamentals use numbers for Specification, Measurement and Process Control. This class uses practical shop floor examples to provide greater confidence in understanding the mathematics which are the foundation of many of the manufacturing processes and specification in use.

Topics include:

Counting Numbers: Inch and Metric Systems
Shapes (Geometry): Example Hex, Square, Cylindrical
Functional Relationships (Algebra): Areas, Volumes, Density, Part Weight
Angular Relationships (Trigonometry): Perpendicularity and other Angles, Rise and Run, X,Y,Z Coordinates.
Non-Linear Relationships: Simple and Complex Curves, Angular and Rectilinear Location.

Instructor

Mr. Jim Speck, P.E.

Jim Speck has provided technical training including Blueprint Reading to a wide range of industrial and commercial personnel. Jim is a licensed professional engineer in Connecticut and has held technical and management positions with the Holo-Krome Company, Crescent Manufacturing and the Johnson Gage Company. Jim is the author Mechanical Fastening, Joining and Assembly, 1st and 2nd editions. He completed an apprenticeship at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and holds degrees from Drexel University and the Hartford Graduate Center.
