SHRM Certification Prep Course Online 1/27/25 - 4/14/25

Eligibility Requirements

Individuals who perform HR duties and wish to verify, validate, enhance and/or expand their HR capabilities are likely candidates for SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification.

SHRM membership is not required for eligibility and individuals need not be employed at the time they apply.
The SHRM-CP certification is for individuals that perform general HR/HR-related duties; or for those pursuing a career in Human Resource Management.
The SHRM-SCP certification is for individuals that have a work history of at least 3 years performing strategic level HR/HR-related duties; or for SHRM-CP credential holders who have held the credential for at least 3 years and are working in, or are in the process of transitioning to, a strategic level role.

Orlena has experience in various industries and Fortune 500 companies in the public and private sector across multiple U.S. regions. Some of her career highlights include opening multiple stores for Target as an HR Executive Team Leader and serving as HR & EEO Officer for CTtransit during the rise and launch of CTFastrak, Connecticut’s multi-million and first bus rapid transit system. She demonstrates expertise, passion and results in Employee Relations, Leadership Coaching, Talent Management, Learning & Development, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI), HR Consulting, Corporate Communications, Business Event & Program Planning. Orlena is the founder and Chief Elevation Officer (CEO) of HR Zoom LLC and workplace culture swag store www.HRSwagShop.com where she’s able to maximize her passion and innovation to positively impact workplace cultures backed by inclusion, development, engagement and strategic excellence. Mrs. Cowan-Bailey is a Hartford Business Journal “40 under 40” award winner which recognizes outstanding young professionals in the Greater Hartford area that excel in their industry and leadership roles.
Orlena is a life-long advocate and change agent for social justice, equity and cultural competence in her community and behind corporate walls. She is a proud Hartford, CT native, Weaver High School Alumnus and Fairfield University Alumnus with multiple advanced certifications from Saint Joseph’s University, Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) and the University of South Florida Muma College of Business including Leadership Development, DEI, Investigations and HR Consulting. She boasts the most advanced and esteemed HR certifications; SPHR and SHRM-SCP. Her expertise and dedication to professional development led her to an adjunct instructor position at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) where she prepares students to pass their SHRM Certification Exam and teaches a full body of HR applied skills and knowledge.
Orlena loves to make moments with loved ones through travel, food and adventure. She prioritizes experiences and gratitude over things. These collective superpowers earned her the long-term alias name “The Moment Maker” where she takes pride in making moments that matter personally and professionally. Out of the many crowns she wears, her most important role is being Mom to two beautiful children and Wife to her Husband who luckily doubles as her best friend and in-house comedian.

This class is run as an online class.

The online class is three-hour scheduled sessions on Tuesday evenings. All sessions will be live.

Students will need a computer with video and a microphone.
