This spring we will be having a six-part movie series on six important films from 1955-1975. The schedule we have established will give you time to watch and think about the film we will be focusing on on your own; in each class session we will want to hear your thoughts on the film for the week (we will also discuss clips of specific scenes.) All of the movies we will be discussing are available through Amazon Prime or other services. A week before each class we will send out a list of questions that will guide our classroom discussion. All six of these films tell us something about the values, beliefs, or politics of the time period. Even if you have seen some (or all) of these movies, it would be great to watch the films again and engage in a discussion about them. Stephen Armstrong has chosen films that he hopes you will enjoy. There will be a separate link for each movie. The films that we will viewing and discussing will be: Session #1: March 8: A Face in the Crowd: Elia Kazan, director. 1957 Session #2: March 22: Dr. Strangelove or How I Stopped Worrying and Love the Bomb: Stanley Kubrick, director. 1964 Session #3: April 13: In the Heat of the Night: Norman Jewison, director. 1967 Session #4 April 27: The Graduate: Mike Nichols, director. 1967 Session #5: May 11: Bonnie and Clyde: Arthur Penn, director. 1967 Movie #6: June 7: Midnight Cowboy, John Schlesinger, director. 1969
